Final Fantasy XII Question (Quickening)?
Final Fantasy XII Question (Quickening)?
Every time I look at tips for Final Fantasy, it will say use a quickening if your character has one...so can anyone tell me exactly what a quickening is, how my character gets one, or how to tell if my character has one?

aoiakaiblue: You can get a quickening on the License board. They look like big balls of fire on the licensing board. Once you have one you should be able to select "Mist" from the battle menu. You can unlock three levels of Mist ability per character. Once you use a Quickening you will go into a sort of limit break like mode. Look in the bottom right of the screen and push the button that corresponds to the character you want to chain the ability with. If no buttons are highlighted press R2 to cycle. You only get 4 seconds in total for Mist, so be quick. It sounds confusing but try it out for a few regular battles near a save point(Mist abilities will drain all of your MP)

Darrius: You can also easily find out what quickenings you have by going into the character's status menu and repeatedly pressing x until you get to the screen that lists quickenings.
One of your priorities early on in the game is to give each character at least one quickening, so that they can participate once they launch a quickening attack. Or at the very least, obtain one quickening minimum for each member of the party you use the most.
It is very useful to unlock all quickenings for characters as much as you can. Apart from allowing you to do more combos, the more quickenings unlocked, the more MP that character has. Each quickening unlocks an additional "mist charge" for that character. You'lll see a new bar in the MP section of that character, and their MP will double.
And as the previous answer described, as long as you have 1 or more mist charges full (depends on your MP amount), you can select quickenings from the mist menu, and launch a chain attack). During this attack, you'll have the option to select another party member's quickening, as long as they are not KO'd, and have at least one quickening.
If they don't have a full charge, or you run out during a quickening combo, occasionally you will see a mist charge option for a character. Pressing this will comletely replenish their MP (for quickening combo purposes only - their MP will still be 0 after the battle), and allow them to continue chaining.
Also note, and very important, that if you're uncovering liscenses on the board in order to get to quickenings, don't bring everyone in the same direction... There are only 18 quickening spots on the board, and once they're unlocked, they're unavailable for everyone else - make sure you uncover liscenses accordingly.
